Former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Super Eagles defender Godwin Okpara has welcomed Ademola Lookman’s move to Atlético Madrid, Afrik Foot exclusively reports.
Lookman completed a €40 million transfer from Atalanta to the Spanish giants, with Atlético Madrid paying €35 million upfront and a further €5 million in add-ons.
The former Nigeria international, speaking on this, described it as a major step forward for both the player and Nigerian football.

Okpara: Ex-PSG defender on Lookman’s Madrid move
Reacting to the transfer, Okpara — who played for Strasbourg and Paris Saint-Germain during his career — said Lookman’s switch to Spain is a big moment for Nigerian football and the Super Eagles.
“It’s big news for Nigeria, and it’s good for the national team,” Okpara said to Afrik Foot NG. “Going to Atlético Madrid, one of the biggest teams in Europe, a team that always plays in the Champions League, is a step up for him. I know he will fit into the team there because he’s a well-determined player. I’m very happy for him.”
The former defender added that Lookman’s work rate gives him the platform to shine at one of Europe’s elite clubs.

Yakubu on Lookman to Atlético Madrid
In an earlier report by Soccernet.ng, former Everton forward Yakubu Aiyegbeni described the move as beneficial for Lookman; he went on to say that Atlético Madrid have signed a forward capable of adding something different to their attack.
“I was convinced he was going to leave Atalanta this winter. Seeing him sign for a big club like Atlético Madrid is a great source of pride,” Yakubu said. “Ademola deserves to wear the colours of a top club like Atlético Madrid. He will bring many positive things to them.”
Yakubu also stressed that Lookman thrives when trusted by his coach and believes the winger can meet the high expectations at Atlético Madrid.

Lookman was spotted in his first training session as a Madrid player yesterday, and he will be hoping to pick up where he left off when he debuts for Simeone’s men this weekend.
