Rafiu Durosinmi: Key reason Pisa striker has yet to sign for Genk

Published on by , updated on

Genk appear to be closing in on the signing of Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi, but one key issue is preventing the transfer from being officially completed, Afrik Foot reports.

The Belgian side are finalising an agreement worth between €10 million and €11 million, including bonuses, for the Pisa forward, with the Serie B club also pushing for a percentage of any future sale.

If completed, the deal would make Durosinmi the most expensive signing in Genk’s history.

However, despite reports suggesting that the 23-year-old is already travelling to Belgium for his medical, the transfer remains unsigned.

Why Durosinmi has not officially joined Genk

According to TransferFeed, the main sticking point is Pisa’s insistence on including a future sell-on clause in the agreement.

The Italian club are keen to protect themselves after signing Durosinmi for around €11 million only six months ago.

Although Pisa suffered relegation and are prepared to sanction the striker’s departure, they still believe the Nigerian possesses significant long-term value.

Given Genk’s reputation as one of Europe’s talent-development clubs, Pisa are wary that Durosinmi could eventually be sold for a substantially higher fee.

As a result, negotiations have focused not only on the guaranteed transfer amount and bonuses, but also on the percentage Pisa would receive from any future transfer.

Such clauses have become increasingly common when clubs believe a player could explode in value after moving to a developmental environment.

Why Pisa’s caution makes sense

Despite enduring a difficult six-month spell in Italy, Durosinmi remains highly regarded across Europe.

Before joining Pisa, the Nigerian had attracted interest from clubs including West Ham United, Benfica and Trabzonspor after impressive performances with Viktoria Plzen.

His combination of physicality, pace and finishing ability continues to make him an intriguing prospect.

At 1.92 metres tall, he offers a rare blend of aerial dominance and mobility, qualities that fit perfectly into Genk’s recruitment profile.

The Belgian club have developed a reputation for transforming relatively unpolished talents into elite-level players, particularly Nigerian forwards. Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare both used Genk as a platform to secure bigger moves, a history Pisa are well aware of.

Medical could accelerate final agreement

Reports from Turkey suggest that Durosinmi is already travelling to Belgium to undergo his medical examinations.

Such a development indicates that the clubs have largely agreed on the principal financial terms of the deal and that negotiations regarding future percentages are entering their final stages, meaning it is unlikely that the transfer will collapse at this stage.

Why Genk remain convinced

Despite Durosinmi’s modest return of one goal and one assist in 12 Serie A appearances last season, Genk still believe they are signing a striker capable of becoming one of the Belgian Pro League’s leading forwards.

The club view him as a long-term investment rather than a player who must immediately deliver extraordinary numbers.

For Durosinmi, the move could also represent the ideal opportunity to revive his Super Eagles ambitions.

Regular football in Belgium would likely place him back on Eric Chelle’s radar ahead of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup qualification campaign.

For now, though, all eyes remain on the negotiations between Pisa and Genk.

Once the final details regarding bonuses and future resale percentages are resolved, Durosinmi’s record-breaking move to Belgium should finally become official.
