Rafiu Durosinmi: Trabzonspor take vital step to sign Super Eagles hopeful

Former Turkish Süper Lig champions Trabzonspor have been heavily linked with a move for Super Eagles hopeful Rafiu Durosinmi to boost their attack for next season, Afrik-Foot reports.

​While Trabzonspor secured a impressive third-place finish in the just-concluded Süper Lig campaign, management is determined to reinforce their frontline ahead of a demanding schedule.

​Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has been their main attacking weapon this term, netting 24 goals and providing two assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Brazilian talent Felipe Augusto has also enjoyed a stellar debut campaign, contributing 15 goals in 39 games.

​However, with the Black Sea Storm competing in the UEFA Europa League next season, squad depth will be crucial to handling the congested fixture list.

​Trabzonspor Make Key Move for Rafiu Durosinmi

​Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi has emerged as a primary target for Trabzonspor in recent weeks. The forward only recently joined Italian side Pisa in January in a €9 million transfer.

​However, the move has not gone to plan. Pisa has been relegated from Serie A, and Durosinmi has struggled to find his footing, contributing just one goal and one assist in 12 appearances.

​Trabzonspor are now looking to capitalize on Pisa’s relegation. To adjust to life in Serie B, the Italian club will likely need to downsize their wage bill and squad, making them open to negotiations.

According to Italian transfer expert Nicolò Schira, Trabzonspor have already “opened talks” to finalize a deal for the forward. While Pisa’s exact asking price remains unconfirmed, they are expected to demand a fee close to the €9 million they invested in January.

​Despite his recent struggles in Italy, Durosinmi’s impressive track record at Viktoria Plzeň precedes him. During his time in the Czech Republic, he registered 35 goals and 10 assists in 86 appearances, showcasing his physical power, pressing ability, and clinical finishing.

​In fact, his form nearly earned him a move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt two years ago, a deal that only collapsed due to a severe, long-term injury.

Despite the setback, there have been growing calls for him to be integrated into the Nigerian national team. A fresh start at Trabzonspor could be exactly what Durosinmi needs to rediscover his best form and earn his maiden Super Eagles call-up.
