Scottish giants Rangers are planning for life after their long-serving captain James Tavernier, and the name of Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu has moved onto their shortlist, Afrik-Foot reports.
Tavernier, now 34, is expected to leave Ibrox at the end of the season after an impressive 11-year spell that has defined an era for the club. Replacing such an influential right-back is not a simple task, but Rangers believe Alebiosu has the qualities to step into that role.
The 24-year-old Nigeria international has built a growing reputation for his pace, strength, and attacking intent from wide areas. Known for his ability to surge forward and deliver dangerous crosses, he fits the profile of the modern full-back, something Rangers have relied on heavily under Tavernier.

Alebiosu is no stranger to Scottish football. Earlier in his career, he spent time on loan with Kilmarnock and St Mirren, gaining valuable experience in the Scottish Premiership. That familiarity with the league could make his adaptation smoother if a move to Ibrox is completed.
Rangers are not the only club interested in Alebiosu, though. According to transfer market insider, Ekrem Konur, Premier League side Everton are also monitoring the full-back. The Super Eagles defender even has admirers from abroad with Serie A club Genoa and Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg in the mix.

Strong Blackburn season raises transfer interest in Super Eagles star
Much of the current interest in Alebiosu comes from his performances with Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Championship this season.
Since joining Blackburn in July 2025 from Belgian side KV Kortrijk, he has quickly become one of the team’s most reliable players. He has made 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring once and providing five assists, solid numbers for a player operating mainly as a right-back or wing-back.
His impact has not just been about numbers. Alebiosu has played a key role in helping Blackburn secure their Championship status, including a crucial assist in a 3-1 win over Sheffield United in April that confirmed their survival.

Coaches have praised his consistency and energy, especially in a demanding 46-game season. Even after a brief dip in form following his involvement with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, he remained an important figure in the squad.
On the international stage, Alebiosu is still at the beginning of his journey. He has earned just one cap for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, making his debut during AFCON 2025. However, his steady club form suggests more opportunities could follow.
It has been established that Rangers are not alone in monitoring his progress, with clubs in England and Europe also keeping close watch. But the combination of his Scottish experience, Championship consistency, and attacking qualities makes him a particularly strong candidate for a move back north of the border.
