Ryan Alebiosu: Key reason Blackburn Rovers’ interest in Imray could affect Super Eagles star’s role

Published on by

Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu could be on his way out of Blackburn Rovers this summer amid growing transfer interest ahead of the window, Afrik-Foot reports.

The one-cap Nigerian defender joined the club last summer from Belgian side Kortrijk and quickly established himself as a key player. He made 40 appearances across all competitions, helping Blackburn narrowly avoid relegation.

Alebiosu’s future has been uncertain, especially after his strong performances last season. The Championship side are almost resigned to losing him this summer due to increasing interest from several clubs ahead of the transfer window.

Scottish Premiership side Rangers, as well as Genoa and West Ham United are heading towards a battle for the signature of the Nigerian defender, although the Scottish side are currently seen as the frontrunners.

Blackburn Rovers urged to move fast in pursuit of Danny Imray

As per reports, Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Danny Imray and could step up their pursuit of the defender in the coming weeks.

The Riversiders endured a difficult campaign last season and are now aiming to challenge for promotion to the Premier League next term as they target a return to the top flight for the first time since 2011–12.

They have recently appointed Tony Mowbray on a second spell as head coach, replacing Michael O’Neill, who had taken charge on an interim basis earlier in the year.

The club are also working on reinforcements, with Imray one of the names being considered as a potential replacement if Ryan Alebiosu eventually leaves.

The Crystal Palace defender has struggled to break into the first team and has instead spent time out on loan, including an impressive spell at West Bromwich Albion, where he played a key role after joining in January.

With no clear pathway into the Crystal Palace senior squad, Blackburn could have an opportunity to sign him permanently if they intensify their interest and Imray would also be open to a move in search of regular playing time.

How this affects Ryan Alebiosu’s future

With Blackburn already exploring options at full-back, it appears they are preparing for life after Ryan Alebiosu, who only joined last summer but enjoyed a very impressive season.

Alebiosu still has two years left on his contract, but Blackburn Rovers value him at £5 million if they are to agree a deal, and a potential sale would allow the club to reinvest in strengthening other areas of the squad.

If this move materializes, Rangers are expected to be the main beneficiaries, as they have emerged as the leading contenders for his signature and Blackburn agreeing a deal with a replacement would open the door for his departure.

The Scottish side are looking for a replacement for James Tavernier, who has left the club after several years and the Super Eagles defender is seen as a strong fit due to his attacking full-back style.

If Blackburn manage to seal a deal for Imray, then Alebiosu will be expected to join Rangers ahead of next season.
