Samuel Chukwueze: Fulham star to break Yakubu, Rashidi Yekini’s Super Eagles record in game against Jordan

Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze is on the verge of reaching a personal milestone with the Super Eagles if he features in Tuesday’s clash against Jordan in the four-nation invitational tournament in Antalya, Turkey, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 26-year-old needs just one more cap to go past legends Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Rashidi Yekini on the all-time appearance list for the Nigerian national team.

The former Villarreal forward drew level with the duo on 57 appearances after featuring in the 2-1 win over Iran last Friday.

Recall that he also provided the assist for Moses Simon’s opening goal. Asides from that, he has a decent performance.

Another outing against Jordan would see him move to 58 caps, leveling with Kelechi Iheanacho on the all-time appearance charts.

How Did Samuel Chukwueze Reach This Point?

Samuel Chukwueze’s journey with Nigeria began at youth level, where he was part of the Golden Eaglets squad that won the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, finishing the tournament with three goals to claim the bronze boot award.

He earned his first senior call-up in October 2018 and made his debut a month later, starting in a goalless draw against Uganda. Since then, he has grown into a key figure for the Super Eagles, maintaining his place in the squad despite several managerial changes.

The winger has represented Nigeria at four African Cup of Nations tournaments, winning a silver medal in 2019 and bronze medals in the 2023 and the recently concluded 2025 editions.

He was also part of the Super Eagles team that lifted the Unity Cup in 2025, after recording victories over Ghana and Jamaica at the tournament.

So far, Chukwueze has scored seven goals for the national team, with his first coming in a 2-1 victory over South Africa at the 2019 AFCON tournament.

His appearances include 19 matches at the African Cup of Nations, 15 in the AFCON qualifiers, 10 in World Cup qualifiers and 13 in international friendlies.

Although he still has a long way to go to match Ahmed Musa’s all-time record of 111 caps, Chukwueze’s age suggest he has plenty of time to climb higher on the rankings.
