Saudi transfer latest: What Stellenbosch exit means for Olisa Ndah

Published on by

Super Eagles defender Olisa Ndah has found himself at a career crossroads after leaving Stellenbosch FC, Afrik Foot reports.

Ndah joined Stellenbosch in search of regular football following his Orlando Pirates departure, but is back on the market after the Cape Winelands club opted against activating an extension clause in his contract.

The decision has left the 28-year-old as a free agent, with interest already emerging from South Africa and abroad. Among the destinations being considered is the Middle East, where Ndah has previously attracted attention.

However, while lucrative offers may be available, questions remain over whether a move to Saudi Arabia or elsewhere in the region would represent the best step for a player looking to rebuild momentum after an injury-disrupted spell.

What has been said about Ndah’s future?

Ndah’s agent, Mike Makaab, confirmed that the former Super Eagles defender is attracting interest from several clubs.

“Ndah is free. We will look at opportunities for him within the borders of South Africa and outside,” Makaab told Soccer Laduma.

The renowned agent acknowledged that clubs in the Middle East remain keen on securing Ndah’s services, but admitted he has reservations about certain destinations because of ongoing instability in parts of the region.

“Again, there is interest in the Middle East. My only concern about the Middle East is the instability of the territory at the moment.”

Makaab explained that political uncertainty can significantly affect football operations, citing examples where domestic leagues have been disrupted by conflict.

“All of these things that are happening create havoc with football,” the agent continued.

“It’s similar to what happens in Sudan, when there’s civil war and the league stops, or games get played outside the country. It becomes totally unsettling for football players.”

The agent also stressed that financial incentives should not outweigh long-term career planning, especially after Ndah suffered a Tibia and fibula fracture that kept him out of action for almost two years.

“The important thing is to try to find a stable environment for our players. It’s one thing being lured by money, but it’s another thing looking at your career from a longevity point of view because you can have an awful experience in one country and end up having a stop-start career.”

Should Ndah consider a Saudi move?

At 28, Ndah is entering what should be the prime years of his career. A move to Saudi Arabia could provide significant financial security while also offering the opportunity to compete in a league that has grown rapidly in profile since Cristiano Ronaldo’s move in 2022.

With many clubs investing heavily in infrastructure and recruitment, the Saudi Pro League has become a realistic destination for experienced African internationals seeking a fresh challenge.

Ndah’s physical style, aerial ability and defensive leadership could translate well to the demands of the competition.

However, there are also compelling reasons to proceed cautiously. After enduring injuries and limited game time over the last two seasons, Ndah needs a club where he can play regularly, rebuild confidence and re-establish himself as one of Nigeria’s consistent defenders.

A stable environment could also improve his chances of returning to the Super Eagles fold ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

South Africa remains a realistic option, particularly given his familiarity with the PSL and the reputation he built during his Orlando Pirates years. A move to a competitive European league could also provide greater visibility at the international level.
