Seventh heaven for Josh Maja in West Brom defeat

One-cap Super Eagles striker Josh Maja continued his impressive form with his seventh goal of the season on Saturday.

However, it wasn't enough to prevent West Brom from suffering a 3-2 defeat in a thrilling English Championship match against Sheffield Wednesday.

West Brom found themselves trailing 2-0 within the first 25 minutes, following a Darnell Furlong own goal and another strike by Josh Windass.

Despite the early setback, the visitors mounted a comeback in the second half.

Maja gets seventh of the season

Maja pulled one back in the 65th minute, and Alex Mowatt equalized in the 84th minute to level the game at 2-2.

However, Sheffield Wednesday had the last word, securing the winner just two minutes later, sealing a 3-2 victory.

Maja has been in excellent form for West Brom this season, consistently finding the back of the net.

The 27-year-old Nigerian striker has now scored seven goals and provided one assist in just seven Championship appearances.

Another Super Eagles player, defender Semi Ajayi, featured as a late substitute for West Brom during the match.

Despite the loss, Maja's goals have been instrumental in pushing West Brom to second place in the Championship standings, with 16 points from seven games, trailing leaders Sunderland only on goal difference.

Maja played the full 90 minutes in what was an action-packed game. The Nigerian striker managed 16 touches of the ball and had one shot on target.

His passing accuracy was moderate, completing 7 out of 11 passes for a 64% success rate.

Additionally, he created one big chance and had one of his shots blocked by the Sheffield Wednesday defense.

However, Maja struggled in duels, losing all of his aerial and ground battles.
