Sevilla’s €13m offer for George Ilenikhena: Breakdown of the 3 clauses in the deal

Published on by

Nigerian attacker George Ilenikhena has been on the radar of some European clubs this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 20-year-old attacker became the most expensive under-23 Nigerian player after his €33 million move from Monaco to Al-Ittihad in the January transfer window.

He joined the Saudi Arabian club amid a lot of hype, as he is known to be a pacy, powerful, and versatile player who is deadly in front of goal.

He had a slow start to life at the club, but things have improved over the last few weeks. On Tuesday, he scored a brace for Al-Ittihad to help them secure a 3-0 win over Al-Najma.

In the meantime, there has been considerable speculation about Ilenikhena’s future. Sevilla have been tracking him for a few weeks, and news recently broke that Bologna and Trabzonspor are also seriously interested in acquiring his services.

Sevilla’s initial stance was a loan deal for Ilenikhena. The club has been targeting low-cost deals for players, but Al-Ittihad are unwilling to entertain loan offers. They would rather sell the young Nigerian outright.

Now Los Nervionenses are back for Ilenikhena and have put together a package for the former Monaco forward. In this article, we break down the three main points of Sevilla’s offer.

Sevilla have returned with another offer for George Ilenikhena as they look to boost their squad ahead of the new season. As it stands, they lack quality in the attacking third.

According to Ekrem Konur, Sevilla are now looking to finalize a permanent deal with Al-Ittihad. They have submitted a formal bid of €13 million for Ilenikhena.

€10 million will be guaranteed, while the remaining €3 million will be based on performance targets and milestone achievements.

In addition to this, the La Liga club has also included a sell-on clause that will grant Al-Ittihad a percentage of any future transfer fee should Sevilla sell the Nigerian.

In reality, Ilenikhena is currently valued at €10 million on Transfermarkt, meaning Sevilla’s offer is even higher than the player’s estimated market value.

Why Al-Ittihad Might Decline Sevilla’s Offer

First of all, it is important to note that George Ilenikhena has a contract that runs until June 2029, giving Al-Ittihad significant leverage in negotiations.

Ilenikhena is open to returning to Europe, so the Saudi Pro League side is willing to listen to offers in the region of €20 million.

However, Sevilla’s current proposal falls short of Al-Ittihad’s valuation, making it likely that the Spanish side will be rebuffed.

The former Europa League champions will have to act quickly if they genuinely want Ilenikhena, especially with Trabzonspor and Bologna in the mix and only ten days remaining before the transfer window shuts.
