Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has remained a free agent since his departure from Chippa United in February, Afrik-Foot reports.
The former Enyimba star was Nigeria’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
However, upon returning to his club, he opted to terminate his contract—a move many fans and pundits felt was premature. Since then, Nwabali has been without a team.
While he has been linked to several clubs, the speculation has yet to materialize into a concrete offer. With most transfer windows currently closed, a move before the summer appears unlikely.

As the summer window approaches, Afrik-Foot highlights three clubs where Nwabali could potentially land:
1. Kaizer Chiefs
When Nwabali first left Chippa United, Kaizer Chiefs was heavily touted as his most likely destination. As one of South Africa’s most prestigious clubs with 13 league titles, the Amakhosi represent a significant step up.
While the club is currently well-stocked in the goalkeeping department—with Rwanda’s first-choice keeper Fiacre Ntwari often playing second-fiddle to Brandon Petersen—signing a player of Nwabali’s caliber might be too good an opportunity to pass up.
Given his status as a free agent, he would be a cost-effective signing. Also, having spent over three years in the PSL, he would need no time to adapt to the league.
2. Simba SC
Tanzanian giants Simba SC are another viable option. They are arguably the most successful club in Tanzania, and are highly ambitious. Simba SC consistently compete in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup.
Financially, Simba have the resources to meet the demands of a player of Nwabali’s stature. Should the Super Eagles star make the move, he would likely be guaranteed regular playing time, as he is better than the current goalkeeping options at the club.

Also, the transition would be smooth given the proximity and football culture between South Africa and Tanzania.
3. Al Ahly Benghazi
The Libyan giants are another potential destination for the Nigerian international. Known for their financial muscle, Al Ahly Benghazi could offer the lucrative contract necessary to lure the Super Eagles star to their side of town.
As the defending champions and perennial title contenders in Libya, Al Ahly would give Nwabali with the competitive platform he craves. A goalkeeper of his quality would offer a significant boost to their defensive line, making this an option the club is likely to explore come summer.

Nwabali’s decision to leave Chippa United was fueled by ambition. Chippa have usually struggled at the bottom of the table and currently sit in 13th place, just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Nwabali is likely looking for a club that consistently challenges for silverware and offers a fatter salary. For now, however, his career remains on pause. He will be hoping that the summer window brings an answer for him so he can return to the pitch and reclaim his place as one of Africa’s top goalkeepers.
