Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been handed a three-month suspension by his Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars SC, following serious allegations of match-fixing, Afrik-Foot reports.
The club’s management, through its Disciplinary Committee, released an official public notice on February 27, 2026, detailing the sanctions against the Super Eagles goalie and his teammate, Khalid Aucho.
According to the official statement, while Khalid Aucho was suspended for three months due to indiscipline and absenteeism, the case against Obasogie appears to be far more severe.
The Nigerian shot-stopper has been sidelined for the same duration to allow the club to conduct a thorough investigation into his alleged involvement in match-fixing.

In its communique, the club emphasized that all players and staff must maintain the highest standards of accountability and respect for the institution.
What This Suspension Means For Obasogie’s International Career
This development comes as a big blow to 26-year-old Amas Obasogie, who has been a consistent member of the Super Eagles squad in the past year.
The former Bendel Insurance man earned his spot in the Super Eagles squad while he was still plying his trade in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

He has often been the third choice after Stanley Nwabali and Udinese star Maduka Okoye. He was part of the Super Eagles squad that finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations which ended last month.
Although he did not feature in any game, he remained a reliable team player an had a good rapport with the other goalkeepers.
However, a three-month suspension at this point would have dire consequences for his international future.
If the allegations are proven, Obasogie faces not only a lengthy club ban but also potential sanctions from FIFA, which could effectively end his time with the national team.
Super Eagles In A Goalkeeper Crisis Ahead of March Break
Obasogie’s ban is a blow for the Super Eagles who have a few games coming up during the March international break.
Nigeria have games scheduled against Iran and Jordan. In fact, depending on FIFA’s ruling, the Super Eagles might get to play in the World Cup playoffs. Hence, Eric Chelle would need all his players to be active and ready to play.

Already, Stanley Nwabali is a big doubt. He terminated his contract at Chippa United, so he has not played a game since the AFCON third-place game against Egypt on January 17.
With his lack of match fitness, it would be a surprise if he is called up to the Super Eagles next month.
Similarly, with Obasogie’s ban, it is unlikely that he will also be called up. This means that two of Nigeria’s three goalies from the last AFCON are unavailable.
Super Eagles coach Chelle will definitely have some work to do with his goalkeeper department.
