Super Eagles: Iwobi, Nwaiwu join Cameroon’s Onana in Africa Team of the Week

Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Chibuike Nwaiwu have earned places in Africa’s Team of the Week alongside Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana following their performances for Fulham and Trabzonspor.

The Nigerian duo secured top ratings that made them worthy of inclusion in the best XI for the week of October 6 to 12, 2026, in a 4-3-3 formation featuring standout performers across Europe’s top nine leagues.

Nwaiwu recorded the highest rating among the 11 players, earning 8.97 after scoring for Trabzonspor against Samsunspor.

Iwobi received a rating of 7.42 despite Fulham suffering a disappointing 2-1 away defeat against newly-promoted Ipswich. Trabzonspor goalkeeper Onana made the selection with 7.67, joining club teammate Nwaiwu on the elite list.

Onana’s clean sheet keeps Cameroonian top

Onana was selected between the posts after helping ten-man Trabzonspor secure a 3-0 victory over Samsunspor in the Turkish Super Lig.

The Cameroonian made six saves and recorded eight ball recoveries. His contribution helped Trabzonspor keep a clean sheet and earned him a rating of 7.67.

Super Eagles star mans defence

Super Eagles centre-back Nwaiwu led the defence with an outstanding rating of 8.97 after his goalscoring exploits in Trabzonspor’s victory over Samsunspor.

The Nigerian defender doubled his team’s advantage in the 38th minute, reacting quickly to a loose ball inside the penalty area. He also recorded six ball recoveries and helped his side maintain a clean sheet.

Nwaiwu was joined in defence by Jaouen Hadjam of Brighton & Hove Albion, who earned a rating of 7.31 after scoring late in a 2-0 win against Sunderland.

Angola’s Domingos Bandeira of Casa Pia received 7.58 after winning five aerial duels in his club’s 0-1 home loss to Santa Clara, while Trabzonspor and Cape Verde star Wagner Cardoso completed the back four with a rating of 7.29 after recording seven clearances.

Another Super Eagles star in midfield

Iwobi was among the three midfielders selected after his performance for struggling Fulham against Ipswich Town.

The Nigerian international earned a rating of 7.42, registering three key passes and eight ball recoveries. But the former Arsenal man’s contribution both in possession and defensively was not enough to help the Cottagers avoid defeat.

Iwobi was joined by Senegal’s Pape Matar Sarr, who received a rating of 7.64 after recording three key passes and six ball recoveries in Juventus’ 1-1 draw at Cagliari.

Another Senegal international Rassoul N’diaye completed the midfield with a rating of 7.55, having registered six key passes and six ball recoveries during Le Havre’s 1-0 loss at LOSC Lille.

Real Madrid man leads attack

Senegal forward Pathé Mboup stole the show with a goal and an assist in Brest’s 5-1 win over Angers. It was enough to see the 22-year-old make the attacking selection with a rating of 7.86.

Morocco’s Tawfik Bentayeb earned a rating of 7.63 after finding the net and registering three shots on target in Anderlecht’s 2-1 win at Cercle Brugge in the Belgian top flight.

Ivorian kidwonder Yio Diomande completed the front three with a rating of 7.50 after scoring and recording three key passes for Real Madrid in their 1-0 win against Villarreal.
