Forgotten Super Eagles star becomes new Al-Orobah goal king, beats Brazilian’s record

Former Super Eagles striker Simy Nwankwo made history for Al-Orobah after scoring twice in their 2-1 comeback win over Al-Jandal on Monday, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Nigerian striker was the hero of the night as his team came from behind to secure all three points in a crucial Saudi First Division League clash. Al-Orobah fell behind early in the game, but Simy stepped up when it mattered most.

Just before half-time, he scored the equaliser to bring his side level, showing calmness under pressure at a key moment in the match. Then, in the 57th minute, he struck again with a well-taken goal that completed the turnaround and sealed victory for his team.

That brace took his total to 23 goals in 24 matches this season. In doing so, he broke the club’s record for the most goals scored in a single campaign. The previous record of 21 goals was held by Tiago Bezerra during the 2022/23 season.

Super Eagles star Simy eyes more milestones

Simy Nwankwo is not only chasing club history but also individual honours. His 23 goals place him firmly in the race for the Golden Boot in the Saudi First Division.

At the moment, he sits third on the scoring chart, just behind Gaëtan Laborde, who has 24 goals, and Sylla Sow, who leads the standings with 26 goals. With only a few matches left, the race remains wide open.

His goals have also played a key role in Al-Orobah’s promotion push. The club currently occupies one of the promotion qualification spots, with just three games remaining in the season. Every point now is vital as they aim to secure a return to the top flight.

Recent form has been mixed for Al-Orobah. While they have managed to win their last two away matches, they have struggled at home, losing their previous two games in front of their fans. This inconsistency makes their next fixture even more important.

They will return home on Saturday to face Al-Wehda, a match that could have a big impact on their promotion hopes. The team will be eager to bounce back and give their supporters something to celebrate.

All eyes will once again be on Simy Nwankwo, whose goals could decide not only the outcome of the match but also Al-Orobah’s fate this season.

A former Nigeria international, Simy’s last major tournament with the Super Eagles was at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He was an under-study to former Watford hero Odion Ighalo at the competition.
