Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has dismissed claims linking him to match-fixing, Afrik Foot reports.

Obasogie described the accusations as a misunderstanding caused by errors he made during a recent game for his club.

Speaking to Footy-Africa, the Nigerian shot-stopper said he was stunned after being informed of the allegations.

The AFCON bronze medalist insists there was no basis for the claim and that he has always conducted himself professionally throughout his career.

Obasogie explained that the situation escalated after he committed a few errors in a match, which later raised suspicion among club officials.

“I was surprised by the allegations. After the game, I was accused of match-fixing simply because I made a few mistakes. I received the letter and was shocked. However, God is in control, and I believe I will come out of this stronger,” he said.

The former Bendel Insurance goalkeeper stressed that his history in football does not support the allegations being made against him.

“I don’t have any issues with anyone within the club. I am a peaceful person, a true professional, and disciplined. That’s why I don’t understand these allegations. I have never been involved in match-fixing in my career,” Obasogie added.

Focus on clearing his name

Obasogie is currently under suspension as investigations continue, with his club yet to announce any final decision on the matter. No official sanction has been handed down by football authorities so far.

The Nigerian international remains confident that he will be vindicated once the process is completed, as he looks to put the controversy behind him and revive his club and international career.
