Nigeria skipper Ahmed Musa has said he is keen on creating opportunities for young people in Kano, who are interested in taking up careers in sports.

The 31-year-old has been an icon and a mentor to many young Nigerians since breaking onto the scene over a decade ago.

Ahmed Musa’s professional career has seen him line up in some of Europe’s best leagues, having played in the Netherlands, Russia, England and Turkey.

He has previously been on the books of Leicester City, CSKA Moscow, VVV-Venlo and Sivasspor, while also being capped 109 times by Nigeria.

Ahmed Musa to collaborate with Kano State Government on sports development

Ahmed Musa was part of the Super Eagles side that braved the odds to reach the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024) in Ivory Coast last month.

The veteran forward was sparingly used by coach Jose Peseiro as Nigeria went on to miss out on the trophy to Ivory Coast after the hosts came from a goal down to win the final.

Since returning from the AFCON, Musa has been involved in a lot of activities, with his latest being a visit to the Kano State Government.

The former Leicester City forward held talks with Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, with sports development in State taking centre stage.

The Super Eagles captain said he was ready to collaborate with the Kano State Government to enhance sporting opportunities for young people in the State.

“Honoured to have had a productive conversation during a courtesy visit to His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State,” Musa wrote on X (formerly Twitter) afterwards.

“We discussed the importance of enhancing sports opportunities for all youths in Kano, not only in football but across all sporting disciplines. Excited to work together towards a brighter future for sports development in our beloved state!”

Ahmed Musa terminates contract with Sivasspor

Meanwhile, Ahmed Musa is currently without a club after terminating his contract with Turkish Superlig side Sivasspor last week.

He was in his second season with the club but found game time very hard to come by, making just two appearances in the league before heading to the AFCON with Nigeria.

Reports also suggest Sivassport had not paid the forward for six months and the accumulation of unpaid wages led to him terminating his contract.

Musa, however, remains the captain of the Super Eagles but it’s unlikely that he’ll be invited for the next international assignment if he doesn’t find a new club.
