‘Fair play’ – Ex-Super Eagles captain reacts to Arsenal’s Premier League triumph

Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has reacted to Arsenal’s Premier League triumph, Afrik Foot reports.

The Gunners already had a two-point advantage over Pep Guardiola’s men heading into the penultimate matchday, meaning if City dropped points, they would be crowned league champions for the first time since 2004.

The Cityzens were shell-shocked by French youngster Junior Kroupi after he put a curler beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 39th minute.

The Cherries came close to scoring a second goal several times, but it was Haaland who restored parity in the 95th minute, and it was too late to fire up a comeback.

After Andoni Iraola’s men tied Manchester City to a point, Arsenal fans, and players likewise, donned the streets of London, all the way up to the Emirates Stadium, to celebrate their victory, ending a 22-year absence without a league title.

Mikel, who’s been very critical of the Gunners’ style of play, particularly due to their set-piece antics, revealed he’s been getting messages from the Arsenal fans.

“I woke up to my phone blowing up, the messages were unbelievable, from Arsenal fans,” the two-time English Premier League winner said on the Obi One podcast.

“But why will I congratulate Arsenal for winning the Premier League, I, a Chelsea fan, no way would we congratulate Arsenal for winning the Premier League.

“But I have to say it though: they won the Premier League, they deserve it, fair play.

“We should not be bitter losers when it comes to sports. If someone has beaten you, you shake hands, and you move on,” he concluded.

Arsenal will lift the English Premier League trophy on Sunday when they travel to Selhurst Park to play against Crystal Palace.

Mikel Arteta’s men can win the double if they defeat Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final on the 30th of May at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
