Super Eagles: Ex-Chelsea boss comments on Dele-Bashiru’s performance vs Udinese

Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri was impressed by what Super Eagles midfielder Oluwafisayo Dele-Bashiru added to his team in the 3-3 draw against Udinese yesterday, Afrik Foot reports.

The 25-year-old has had a tough season at the Stadio Olimpico, starting just nine of the Eagles’ 34 league games.

He’s also struggled to nail down a specific role under Sarri, further deepening his troubles at the Italian capital.

Chelsea boss impressed with Dele-Bashiru in Lazio draw vs Udinese

Lazio came back twice against Kosta Runjaic’s side to claim a point last night, thanks to Pedro’s influence off the bench.

The former Chelsea winger scored Lazio’s second in the 80th minute, before setting up Daniel Maldini’s 96th-minute equaliser.

Still, Dele-Bashiru’s 45-minute cameo didn’t go under the radar. According to Sarri, the Nigerian’s introduction brought some much-needed physicality to Lazio’s midfield.

“We entered as a team with a lot of nerves, we entered the game after half an hour.

The second half was of excellent level, the turning point of the match on 2-1 is the missed goal opportunity with Dele-Bashiru.

We immediately suffered the physical gap this evening, we went into difficulty on all the dirty balls in the penalty area. There was great character in looking for the draw as well,” the former Chelsea boss said in quotes revealed by Fanta Calcio Italy.

Lazio are now 8th on the Serie A table, and can kiss any chance of playing European competitions next term goodbye.
