Super Eagles and Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez has capped a remarkable debut season in Scotland by earning a place in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year, Afrik-Foot reports.
The 24-year-old centre-back arrived at Ibrox with little fanfare but has grown into one of the most reliable figures in the team’s defence. His early weeks were not straightforward, as he adjusted to the pace and physical demands of Scottish football. However, he soon found his rhythm and became a key part of the backline, impressing with his calmness on the ball, ability to play out from defence, and strength in one-on-one situations.
Fernandez’s impact has not been limited to defending. He has also contributed six goals in 28 appearances across all competitions, a notable return for a centre-back and a reflection of his threat during set-pieces.
His performances earned him recognition alongside players such as Paul McGinn, Craig Halkett and Harry Milne in the league’s Team of the Year.
Speaking after the announcement, Fernandez expressed both pride and gratitude.

“I am delighted to be included in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year, and it means a lot to me,” he told the club’s official website.
“I have enjoyed my debut season with Rangers, and it has gone better than I ever dreamed it could.”
He also acknowledged the role of his manager and teammates in his development.
“I would like to thank the gaffer and his coaching staff for believing and trusting in me, my teammates for all their support, as well as our amazing fans who have backed me since I joined the club.”
His strong club form has also translated to the international stage. Fernandez received his first call-up to the Super Eagles in March and made an immediate impression, featuring in a 2-1 win over Iran before scoring on his full debut against Jordan.

Fernandez: Chelsea, Arsenal and Europe’s elite circle Super Eagles star
Fernandez’s rise has attracted interest across Europe, with several top clubs now monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea are among the sides closely tracking his progress, with the London club believed to view him as a potential long-term defensive option. They are not alone, however, as Arsenal are reportedly at the front of the queue and have already sent scouts to watch him in action.
Interest extends beyond England. In Germany, both Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are said to be keen, with Leverkusen understood to have taken further steps towards a possible deal.

Several other Premier League clubs, including West Ham United, Everton FC and Manchester United, have also been linked, while interest across Europe includes Bayern Munich, AFC Ajax, Feyenoord and Club Brugge.
Rangers, though, remain in a strong position. Fernandez is under contract until June 2029, and the club are reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of £35 million to €40 million.
Fernandez will be keen to cap a fantastic season by inspiring Rangers to the league title.
