Nigeria’s Super Eagles are gearing up for a challenging journey as they embark on their quest to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The qualifiers, set to commence next month, will see Nigeria face off against Benin and Rwanda in what promises to be a crucial start to their campaign.

CAF confirm Super Eagles fixture dates

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially released the schedule for the first round of fixtures in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers. Nigeria will open their campaign on 7 September 2024 with a home game against Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 PM local time. This fixture will be the Super Eagles' first opportunity to claim valuable points in Group A, setting the tone for their qualification run.

Just three days after their encounter with Benin, the Super Eagles will travel to Kigali to take on Rwanda. The match will be held at the newly refurbished Amahoro Stadium on 10 September 2024.

The road to AFCON 2025 will not be an easy one for Nigeria. Following their matches against Benin and Rwanda, the Super Eagles are slated to face Libya in the following international window.

With only the top two teams from each group advancing to the tournament in Morocco, every match will be crucial for Nigeria’s hopes of making it to the continental showpiece.

Adding to the complexity of their campaign is the fact that not only are Nigeria, Benin, and Rwanda also in the same group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but the Super Eagles are presently without a substantive head coach.
