Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho continued his impressive form in the Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup), scoring as Sevilla secured a 3-1 victory over UE Olot.

The second-round fixture saw Sevilla travel north to face the minnows, with Iheanacho included in the starting line-up.

The Nigerian striker linked up effectively with Jesús Navas in Sevilla’s attack but struggled to break through Olot’s defence until the game’s first penalty was awarded.

Before Sevilla’s spot-kick, Olot had a chance to take the lead with a penalty of their own but failed to convert.

At the other end, following a handball incident by an Olot defender in the box, Gonzalo Montiel calmly slotted home the penalty to put Sevilla ahead. That was the only goal of the first half.

The La Liga side stepped up their game in the second half, scoring two well-taken goals.

Just three minutes after the restart, Juanlu Sánchez doubled Sevilla’s advantage, underlining their dominance over the lower-league Spanish side.

In the 73rd minute, Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho capitalized on a brilliant cross from the right flank, poking the ball home to make it 3-0.

It marked his third goal of the competition, following a brace in the first round against Las Rozas in October.

Olot managed to grab a consolation goal in added time through an Oriol Ayala header, but their journey in the competition came to an end.

Iheanacho’s goal will undoubtedly boost his confidence, as he is yet to find the net in La Liga since joining Sevilla following the expiration of his contract with Leicester City.

The 28-year-old has also been the subject of transfer speculation, with reports in Spain suggesting Sevilla may consider selling him in the January transfer window to cut their losses.
