Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru ended his stay at Turkish Super Lig club Genclerbirligi during the summer, as he fell short of the performance expected of him in his first season, Afrik-Foot reports.
However, following the severing of ties, he was unable to secure a new club during the summer transfer window despite links to different clubs in Turkey.
In previous articles, Afrik-Foot noted that the unceremonious manner with which Onyekuru and Genclerbirligi ended their association could make it harder for the Super Eagles star to get a new club. And that is what has happened.

However, two Turkish sides that emerged as possible destinations ultimately did not complete deals for the Nigerian. In this article, we write on two clubs that had the opportunity to sign Onyekuru, but passed on the opportunity.
1. Kocaelispor
Kocaelispor were one of the clubs linked with a move for Onyekuru during the summer.
The Turkish side had reason to consider the Nigerian given his previous experience in the Süper Lig.

Onyekuru had already played in Turkey for Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor, meaning he would not have needed time to adapt to the league.
His pace and ability to play across the frontline also made him a potentially useful option for a club looking to add experience to its attack. However, Kocaelispor ultimately did not sign him.
The move failed to materialise as the club and player could not reach an agreement, leaving Onyekuru to continue his search for a new destination.
2. Bursaspor
Bursaspor were another Turkish club to show interest in Onyekuru.
The Nigerian’s experience made him an appealing option, particularly given his previous spells in the country and his familiarity with Turkish football.

But, like Kocaelispor, Bursaspor did not complete a deal for the winger.
The proposed move eventually fell through, leaving Onyekuru without a club despite the interest he had received.
For a player who has previously represented Everton, Galatasaray, Monaco and Olympiacos, the lack of a deal represented an unexpected development in his career.
Onyekuru’s Current Situation
SInce parting ways with Genclerbirigi at the end of last season, Onyekuru has been without a club. Hence, he has remained in Nigeria.
The former Galatasaray man likes to spend his time in Nigeria whenever he is out of football. When Osimhen even visited Nigeria earlier in this international break, both players were spotted together.
As a free agent, he can join any club at any time, even if the transfer window is closed. So it is left to be seen if his clubless situation will end anytime soon.
