Taribo West holds Peseiro responsible for Super Eagles' AFCON final loss
Reflecting on the recent defeat of the Super Eagles to Ivory Coast, former Nigerian footballer Taribo West shared his insights, drawing parallels to historical events.
West remarked, “I hold the bench responsible for the loss to Côte d’Ivoire. In 1990, Nigeria lost 5-1 to Algeria in the opening game but in the final, it was a different ball game.”
“For me, the coaching crew should have come up with another strategy after meeting Côte d’Ivoire again,” he quipped.
He suggested that Jose Peseiro and his coaching staff should thoroughly review their tactics employed in the final match and extract valuable lessons from them, especially if the Portuguese coach remains in charge and guides them to the 2025 AFCON final.
