Sudanese giants El Merriekh Omdurman have signed Super Eagles and Enyimba goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo on a two-year deal, subject to international clearance.
Ojo will join the Red and Gold after the Nigeria Premier League season concludes, marking the beginning of his professional career abroad.
Sudan calling for Super Eagles shot-stopper Leke Ojo
Ojo follows in the footsteps of fellow Nigerians such as Endurance Idahor, Stephen Worgu, and Ibrahim Mustapha, who have also played in Sudan.
As a member of the Super Eagles squad for the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Ojo was also invited to the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, though he did not get any playing time.
His international experience includes being part of the Flying Eagles team that won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2015 in Senegal.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper has had a notable domestic career, featuring for Giwa FC, Abia Warriors, Sunshine Stars, and Akwa United, with whom he won the Federation Cup in 2017.
Renowned for his consistency and skill, Ojo has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Nigerian league.
This season at Enyimba, he has made 18 league appearances, achieving 10 clean sheets and captaining the team to their ninth league title last season.
New adventure for Leke
Leke Ojo's leadership qualities and reliable performances have been instrumental to Enyimba's success, especially last season when they won the NPFL title.
He is well-loved in Aba, where Enyimba play, as he is a fan favorite and one of the key players for the two-time CAF Champions League winners.
El Merriekh Omdurman, known for their regular participation in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup, will benefit from Ojo’s experience and talent as they aim for further continental success.
Ojo's move to Sudan represents a significant step in his career, and he is expected to make a substantial impact with his new club.
