The Super Eagles of Nigeria face Russia in an international friendly game on Tuesday in Novgorod, but the fixture will be watered down due to the absence of several key players.

The hosts, Russia, will be without two of their best players in Matvey Safonov and Aleksandr Golovin. The former returned to PSG on Saturday to resume preparation ahead of the restart of club football, while Golovin sustained a slight injury and has returned to Monaco as a result.

For Nigeria, it is even worse. When coach Eric Chelle revealed his squad list for this game, it was clear that he wanted to use it to test new players. He invited 24 players to their Russia camp, but only 18 have arrived and trained as at Sunday night.

With the game against Russia coming up on Tuesday, Chelle faces a major selection headache.
