Super Eagles right wing: 4 Nigeria stars challenging Chukwueze under Chelle

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze may still have the keys to Nigeria’s right wing, but the door is no longer locked, Afrik-Foot reports.

The AC Milan winger remains Eric Chelle’s most established option on the flank, carrying years of Super Eagles experience and the confidence that comes with rediscovering his spark at club level. Yet behind him, four Nigerians are circling, each with a different argument for why the position should not be taken for granted.

Chukwueze’s market value has climbed to €20 million on Transfermarkt after a €2m increase, a reflection of his encouraging revival at AC Milan following last season’s loan spell at Fulham. The 27-year-old has started four of Milan’s opening five Serie A matches, registering two assists across 386 minutes.

Then came Uyo. On September 25, Chelle trusted Chukwueze from the start against Madagascar in Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. He lasted 61 minutes before the coach turned to Moses Usor.

What happened next gave the right-wing debate an entirely different pulse.

Azeez has goals on his side

Femi Azeez may currently be watching from the treatment room, but his early Super Eagles record has already given Chelle something precious, and that’s goals.

The Millwall attacker, valued at €15m, has scored twice in his first two appearances for Nigeria. That is an explosive beginning.

However, injury has temporarily interrupted that charge, giving Chukwueze more breathing space, but it has not erased the threat.

When Azeez returns, he will not be starting from zero. He will be returning with evidence that Chelle will find hard to ignore.

Usor kicked the door open

Then there is Moses Usor, the €6m LASK attacker who turned his Super Eagles debut into a night he will never forget.

The Super Eagles were locked at 1-1 with Madagascar when Chelle sent the 24-year-old onto the pitch for Chukwueze. Usor did not ease himself into international football. He exploded into it.

The forward seized possession, powered into space and finished a surging individual move to give Nigeria a 2-1 victory. Within minutes of his arrival, he had transformed himself from an uncapped newcomer into the man who delivered three points.

Although, Usor can function as a centre-forward with the ability to operate on either wing, but he has shown he can do maximum damage with his left foot from the right flank.

That versatility makes him particularly interesting to Chelle. He can begin wide, attack the channels, drift inside and turn a seemingly harmless possession into a direct assault on goal.

His market value may be the lowest of the five, but his latest contribution was impossible to price.

Tella has pedigree to burn

Nathan Tella’s case is built on a different foundation. The Bayer Leverkusen attacker is valued at €15m and has already experienced the rarefied air of a trophy-laden European club career. He has won the Bundesliga, German Cup and German Super Cup, while his versatility allows him to operate from the right, left or midfield.

Yet his Nigeria story has been frustratingly quiet.

Tella has only two senior caps and is still searching for his first Super Eagles goal. A succession of injuries also disrupted his 2025/26 campaign, costing him almost 30 matches for Leverkusen.

His problem is not a lack of pedigree. It is getting enough uninterrupted time in a Nigeria shirt to turn that pedigree into influence.

Yohanna is waiting in the wings

And then comes Zadok Yohanna, the youngest and perhaps most intriguing name in the equation.

The 19-year-old Brighton winger is valued at €18m despite having never played for the senior Super Eagles. A left-footed attacker, he is a specialist right winger.

His rise has been swift. Yohanna moved from AIK to Brighton in July after producing nine goal contributions in 12 appearances across competitions in Sweden. Brighton handed him a contract through June 2031 and have also identified his ability to operate as a No.10 or inverted right winger.

He is not yet knocking loudly on Chelle’s door. He may be building a new one.

That leaves the Super Eagles coach with a delicious selection puzzle. Once stuck with Chukwueze, Chelle can now turn to any of Azeez, Usor, Tella and Yohanna.

Chukwueze still has the shirt. But suddenly, everyone else wants it.
