‘He wants him’ – Super Eagles legend urges Osimhen to join Mourinho at Real Madrid

Former Nigeria international John Utaka believes Victor Osimhen should seriously consider a move to Real Madrid if José Mourinho personally pushes for the transfer, Afrik-Foot reports.

Osimhen remains one of the most sought-after forwards in European football and recent reports have linked him with a blockbuster switch to the Spanish giants this summer.

Mourinho, who is reportedly close to returning to Real Madrid, is said to have made the Nigerian striker one of his priority transfer targets as part of a major rebuild at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid endured a disappointing 2025/26 season under Álvaro Arbeloa, finishing without a major trophy, and club president Florentino Pérez is now believed to be planning sweeping changes.

One of the biggest problems Madrid have faced since the departure of Karim Benzema has been the absence of a natural centre-forward. Although Kylian Mbappé has often been used through the middle, the French star has looked more comfortable operating from wide areas alongside Vinícius Júnior.

Osimhen is viewed as the ideal solution because of his pace, physicality, pressing ability and aerial dominance. Mourinho has reportedly admired the Nigerian for years and is said to see similarities between Osimhen and former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

Utaka’s message to Osimhen

Speaking to Brila FM, Utaka backed the potential transfer and said Mourinho’s interest alone should convince the striker.

“If I were Osimhen, I would go because if Mourinho has requested for him, it means he really wants him. Osimhen wants to win trophies and Real Madrid is a perfect fit.”

Osimhen has enjoyed another outstanding campaign with Galatasaray, helping the Turkish giants defend their league title. The 27-year-old has scored 15 league goals with five assists in 22 matches, while also netting seven times in the UEFA Champions League this season.

Despite Real Madrid’s strong interest, competition for his signature remains fierce. Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are all monitoring his situation closely.

There is also the possibility that Osimhen could remain at Galatasaray, where he has become a fan favourite in Istanbul, while clubs in the Saudi Pro League continue to watch developments with interest.
