Super Eagles new boy Durosinmi names three Nigerian strikers he wants to emulate

Super Eagles newcomer Rafiu Durosinmi has expressed his excitement after receiving his first call-up to the national team, Afrik-Foot reports.

Durosinmi is one of the beneficiaries of coach Eric Chelle’s decision to name 12 new players to the national team squad for the 2026 Unity Cup.

Prior to the just-concluded season, Durosinmi had been in fine form at the club level.

At his former club, Viktoria Plzeň, he contributed 35 goals and ten assists in 86 appearances. He even came close to joining Eintracht Frankfurt two years ago, but the deal eventually fell through after he sustained a long-term injury just before putting pen to paper.

In January, Durosinmi joined Pisa, but it turned out to be an ill-fated transfer as the 23-year-old marksman suffered relegation with the club. He was limited to just 12 appearances following his January move, contributing one goal and one assist.

Nonetheless, his core attributes spoke for him, earning him a spot in Chelle’s final squad.

Durosinmi is a blend of the traditional and modern-day striker. He is highly physical, deadly in the box, and eager to impact the game in every way he can.

Rafiu Durosinmi Reveals Three Super Eagles Strikers He Wants to Emulate

In his first interview as a Super Eagles player, Rafiu Durosinmi expressed his delight at making Chelle’s Unity Cup squad.

”It means a lot to me; it’s a great honor to put on the jersey,” Durosinmi said. “It’s like watching a dream come to pass—the dream of wanting to play for and represent your country. Now, I have that chance. I want to finish my career as a legend.

”I want to be a player who, when people speak about the Super Eagles, they will always remember my name and say, ‘When Durosinmi played for the Super Eagles, he gave his best and was one of the best.’ That is how I want to finish my career.”

The 23-year-old marksman also revealed his admiration for three Nigerian strikers, noting that he learns from their styles of play.

”When I was young, I wasn’t really someone who watched a lot of football,” he admitted.

“But now, watching the Super Eagles play, the person I’ve watched the most is Osimhen. I also watch Paul Onuachu, both for his club and the national team, and Akor Adams is doing great as well. I think they are all excellent examples for me to follow.”

Heading into Nigeria’s opening Unity Cup game against Zimbabwe, Terem Moffi will likely lead the line, but Durosinmi will be hoping to get some minutes on the pitch to prove his worth.
