Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez has continued to establish himself as an important player for Scottish giants Rangers this season.
The 24-year-old joined the club from Peterborough United in the summer of 2025 and quickly developed into an important part of the Rangers defence.
His first season at Ibrox ended on a high, with Fernandez helping Rangers stay in the title race before their challenge eventually fell short.
His performances also earned him Rangers Men’s Player of the Year, while he was also named in the Scottish Premiership PFA Team of the Year after an impressive debut campaign.

It was no surprise that his performances attracted interest from clubs outside Scotland during the summer transfer window.
Fernandez was heavily linked with a move away from Rangers, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Rennes, Arsenal and Chelsea all interested in the Nigerian defender.
Despite the interest, Rangers decided to keep hold of Fernandez. Looking at what the defender brings to the team, it is easy to understand why they made that decision.
Emmanuel Fernandez: Why Rangers were right to keep Super Eagles star
One of the biggest strengths in Fernandez’s game is his ability to play with the ball. The Super Eagles defender is comfortable receiving possession and helping Rangers build their attacks from the back and his composure also gives Rangers another option when opponents press high up the pitch.

Fernandez can take responsibility with the ball, find teammates and help the team progress into midfield.
That side of his game makes him more valuable because he is able to contribute both when Rangers are defending and when they have possession.
While he has already been criticized for some of his performances this season, his quality on the ball is enough reason for him to remain a key part of the squad.
Fernandez’s aerial ability is another major reason Rangers were right to keep him. The 24-year-old has the physical presence to compete with forwards in the air and deal with crosses and long balls into the Rangers box.
He can win important aerial duels, clear dangerous balls and make life difficult for opposing attackers.
His aerial threat is also useful at the other end of the pitch.
Fernandez has already shown that he can be a danger during set pieces, giving Rangers another player who can attack crosses inside the opposition box.
Rangers had every reason to listen when interest arrived for Fernandez during the summer especially as they could have also commanded a very high fee for his departure.
But allowing him to leave would have meant losing one of their best players, which they ultimately decided against.

At 24, he also still has plenty of room to improve.
Rangers have kept hold of their prized asset for now and will be hoping the decision pays off, especially as they continue their quest to challenge for the Scottish league title this season.
Fernandez will return to action with the club on Saturday when they face Kilmarnock, as they aim to continue their return to form and rise up the standings.
