One-cap Super Eagles star poised for West Brom exit

Super Eagles and West Bromwich Albion striker Josh Maja could be set to exit the club this summer after spending four years at the club, Afrik Foot reports.

The 27-year-old joined the Albions from Girondins de Bordeaux in 2023, but his first season was marred by an ankle ligament injury that kept him out of action for four months.

Still, he managed to score a goal in 12 appearances. In the following season, the injury problems continued, but the Lewisham-born Nigerian managed to score 12 goals in 26 games.

Maja’s fitness peaked this season, but his goalscoring didn’t and with West Brom barely surviving Championship relegation, the club have some brutal decisions to make this summer.

While the former Sunderland striker has struggled for goalscoring form this season, the Albions have thrived with Daryl Dike and Aune Selland Heggebø leading the line for them.

Maja’s contract runs out this summer, and no renewal talks have surfaced so far.

However, the club have been tipped to renew Daryl Dike’s contract and part ways with Josh Maja, according to Football League World.

Daryl Dike has had ill luck with injuries since joining the Albions as well, damaging his Achilles tendon twice.

However, his recent run of form have sparked conversation amongst the club hierarchy, and he is in line to be rewarded with a deal ahead of Maja.

At 25, Dike is about to hit what would normally be considered the prime years of his playing career, and if he can stay fit, he’ll thrive in England. For now, though, it appears Maja is on his way out at the Harwthorns.

This season, Josh Maja has scored six goals in 41 games across all competitions for West Brom this season.

He made his debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in September 2019, against Ukraine, replacing Victor Osimhen in the 90th minute.
