Two Super Eagles stars who can replace Idrissa Gueye at Everton

Some Super Eagles stars are in the market this summer as the transfer window opens, and there might just be room for one in the Premier League, Afrik-Foot reports.

This comes after Everton parted ways with their talismanic Senegalese defensive midfielder, Idrissa Gana Gueye.

The 36-year-old has been a rock in Everton’s midfield over the years. This recently concluded stint was his second on Merseyside, following a previous spell before he left the Toffees for PSG in 2019. In total, he spent seven years with Everton.

Following his exit, Everton are searching for a replacement. They have been linked to several players, such as Pape Gueye and Neil El Aynaoui, but two Super Eagles players possess the quality to fill that position seamlessly.

1. Wilfred Ndidi

Super Eagles skipper Wilfred Ndidi is one player who can do a stellar job replacing Gueye. Aside from his significant Premier League experience — having played for Leicester City for over seven years — he undeniably possesses the necessary quality.

Ndidi shares a similar profile with Gueye. They are both physically imposing and boast high activity levels on and off the ball. Just like Gueye, Ndidi is tactically astute and skilled at shielding his backline.

The 29-year-old midfielder also offers a significantly better aerial presence than Gueye. Ndidi currently plays for Beşiktaş, and the Turkish club would reportedly accept a fee in the region of €10 million to sanction a transfer—an amount well within Everton’s budget.

2. Anthony Dennis

Super Eagles hopeful Anthony Dennis is another player who could replace Gueye effectively. He is an absolute workhorse on the pitch.

Dennis is a dream player for any coach who prioritizes defensive solidity. He excels at intercepting passes, displays a massive work rate off the ball, and is a strong tackler. He also plays with a tenacity and aggressiveness that mirrors Gueye’s style.

While he is not particularly strong in aerial duels, that should not pose a major problem, given that Everton already have several tall players in their ranks.

Dennis is currently available on the market, as he enters the final year of his contract with Göztepe. The Turkish club would be willing to negotiate a deal for €7 million.
