EFL Championship side Hull City have announced Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi as their third signing of the summer.
The Tigers, who finished the 2024/25 season in 21st place, were the division’s lowest scorers and avoided relegation to League One only on goal difference. They are keen to get back to the upper reaches of the English second tier, and view the experienced centre-back as key to that ambition.
Ajayi spent the last six years at West Bromwich Albion, making over 150 appearances for the Magpies, and will join on a free transfer from July 1.

Semi Ajayi: Why has Super Eagles defender signed for struggling Hull City?
Speaking to Hull’s in-house media, Ajayi explained his motivations for the transfer.
“I’m really excited. I spoke to the sporting director (Jared Dublin) and head of recruitment (Martin Hodge), and they sold me on the vision of the club and the plans for this season,” he said.
“The club wants to challenge at the top end of the league and that’s where I see myself challenging. When I heard the vision, I couldn’t wait to get involved in the project.

“I feel I can bring Championship know-how, experience and leadership. I am comfortable on the ball, good in the air and my pace is an asset Jared and Martin spoke highly of.”
Ajayi has made close to 40 international appearances for Nigeria, most recently appearing for the Super Eagles at the Unity Cup in May.
