The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Portugal in an international friendly match on Wednesday, June 10, Afrik-Foot reports.

This is a World Cup preparatory game for Portugal, who are using the fixture to test themselves against the African opposition in their group DR Congo.

Although the Super Eagles did not qualify for the tournament, they will be looking to secure a positive result as proof of the progress made under Eric Chelle since he took charge of the team.

While Nigeria are African giants, having won the Africa Cup of Nations three times, Portugal have claimed the European Championship title once.

Both teams parade several top stars; Nigeria boasts talents such as Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey, Paul Onuachu, and Akor Adams.

Unfortunately, Nigeria’s two biggest names, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, will not be available for the fixture.

Portugal will be without Rafael Leão; however, they remain the stronger side.

Coach Roberto Martínez has a host of world-class players at his disposal, including Bruno Fernandes, Nuno Mendes, Bernardo Silva, João Cancelo, and arguably the greatest player of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has contributed so much to the sport that he remains one of football’s greatest icons. At 41 years of age, he is the undoubted leader of the Seleção.

The match between Nigeria and Portugal is only a friendly, but both teams will be eager to avoid defeat.

Away from the team’s objectives, the match holds individual significance. The will be played at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, and it could be Ronaldo’s final official match on home soil.

This is Portugal’s last game before the World Cup in the Americas. Since Ronaldo is already 41, it is widely believed that this will be his final competition for his country before he calls time on his international career.

A player like him would definitely love to sign off on a high stage, and the World Cup provides just the platform.

Nevertheless, the Super Eagles will be looking to dampen his send-off by claiming a victory over Portugal.
