Quick stats
- The Super Eagles’ 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tunisia was their first outright loss to the Carthage Eagles since 1997 – a 2-0 win in the invitational LG Cup. (The 2004 AFCON semi-final was settled via penalty shoot-out and so is officially entered as a draw.)
Nigeria vs Tunisia: Analysis of the match
Both sides were victorious in their opening matches, but in vastly different circumstances. While Tunisia looked collected and professional in dispatching Uganda, Nigeria were made to work a lot harder than expected to defeat Tanzania, who reeled in a deficit and had another big chance late on. However, on Saturday, both sides are slated to face way tougher opponents, and it will be intriguing to see how they match up.

Tunisia’s strength is certainly their defence, and Nigeria’s is the attack. That feeds the intrigue even more, and while the Super Eagles have not been particularly prolific, they have tended to find a way to score. That just about makes them the favourites going in.
Nigeria vs Tunisia head-to-head record
Interestingly, Nigeria has a losing record against Tunisia. In total, there have been 21 meetings between these two nations, with just over a third of them ending in draws. The Super Eagles have won six matches, while the Carthage Eagles have won seven.
Nigeria vs Tunisia prediction
This will no doubt be fiercely contested, but considering the stakes are not that high, it is unlikely either side will be dissatisfied with the spoils shared. As such, a draw is a very probable outcome.
However, as has been established, Nigeria’s firepower, in conjunction with their lack of defensive solidity, both teams scoring is on the cards as well.
