Super Eagles XI vs Guinea-Bissau: Pick your squad for AFCON 2027 qualifier

The Super Eagles of Nigeria return to action tomorrow against Guinea-Bissau in their second 2027 AFCON qualifier, but who should start in Bissau? Afrik-Foot gives you the chance to pick your preferred Nigeria XI.

Eric Chelle’s side opened their Group L campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo, with debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scoring the goals that secured three points.

Guinea-Bissau also won their opening fixture, beating Tanzania 2-0 away from home, meaning both sides head into Tuesday’s encounter with three points.

The Super Eagles will face a different challenge in Bissau, with Chelle potentially needing to make changes to the XI that started against Madagascar.

Nigeria’s 24-man squad for the September qualifiers contained plenty of competition for places across the pitch, but the situation has changed following the opening game.

Victor Osimhen is unavailable and was ruled out of both September qualifiers with a muscle injury. Taiwo Awoniyi was called up as his replacement, and came on for the final 21 minutes against Madagascar, replacing George Ilenikhena.

That leaves Chelle with several attacking options, including Ilenikhena, Usor, Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon.

Ilenikhena started against Madagascar and scored Nigeria’s equaliser, while Usor came off the bench to net the winner. Their performances have consequently created fresh selection questions for Chelle ahead of the trip to Guinea-Bissau.

Samuel Chukwueze, who started in Uyo, is another player whose position could come under consideration after Usor’s decisive cameo. There are also decisions to make elsewhere.

Stanley Nwabali started in goal against Madagascar, but Maduka Okoye is available and could be considered for the second fixture.

In midfield, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi started the opening game, while Raphael Onyedika and Frank Onyeka provide Chelle with alternative options.

At the back, Ola Aina, Bruno Onyemaechi, Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey formed the defensive line against Madagascar, with Bright Osayi-Samuel, Benjamin Fredricks and Emmanuel Fernandez among the other options in the squad.

Chelle has also refused to confirm whether he will retain the same formation, having started with a 4-4-2 against Madagascar before switching to 4-2-3-1 during the game.
