Super Falcons forward Ifeoma Onumonu has made an exciting move to French side Montpellier from the Utah Royals in the United States this summer and is rearing to go for her new club.

The 30-year-old striker, who was part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, is eager to make her mark in European football, with her eyes set on a top-four finish in France's Division 1 Féminine.

Speaking in an interview with her new club, Onumonu shared her ambitions to play in the prestigious UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Onumonu: I want to play in the UEFA WCL

“It would be great to finish in the top four and participate in the play-offs at the end of the season to, hopefully, qualify for the next Women's Champions League,” she said.

“The ultimate goal is really to take part in that competition next season, and I’m convinced it’s possible here at Montpellier.”

Onumonu, who has already played three matches for the club, though yet to score, is determined to help Montpellier secure European qualification.

“It’s a competition we don’t have in the United States, and I would really love to play in it. It would be an amazing experience,” she expressed with excitement.

New chapter for Ifeoma Onumonu

Her journey with the Super Falcons began in 2021 when she earned her first cap as a substitute in a match against Jamaica during U.S. Soccer’s Summer Series.

She was initially an alternate player on Nigeria's roster for the Women's football event of the Paris Olympics, but was elevated to the full squad after Halimatu Ayinde withdrew due to injury.

Onumonu's European adventure is just beginning, and her ambition is clear—bringing Montpellier to Europe’s biggest stage.
