Chime described the award as both emotional and unexpected, saying it reflects a journey shaped by faith, sport and service to others. She noted that the recognition strengthens her resolve to continue supporting young people, especially girls, through education, sports opportunities and leadership programmes.
Her work through the Judith Chime Foundation has focused on using football as a pathway for growth, discipline and confidence-building among young athletes. According to the former international, the honour belongs not only to her but also to the many young girls and athletes whose dreams continue to inspire her mission.

Chime’s legacy beyond football
Chime represented Nigeria at major global tournaments, including the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2000 Summer Olympics, before transitioning into coaching, mentoring and community leadership after retirement.
Over the last four years, Chime has organised an annual Under-18 youth football tournament in Nigeria, creating a platform for grassroots talents to gain exposure and pursue professional careers.

The competition has steadily grown into a respected development pathway, combining football training with life mentorship.
Her influence extends to the United States, where she runs Judith Chim Queens, an amateur women’s football club, while also working within youth academy coaching structures. These initiatives aim to bridge opportunity gaps for young players and promote education alongside sporting excellence.

Before her humanitarian work gained international attention, Chime built an outstanding playing career at Clayton State University, where she became one of the most decorated goalkeepers in the institution’s history.
During her collegiate years, she set multiple records for saves, clean sheets and goals-against average, helping establish one of the most successful eras for the university’s women’s soccer programme. The former Nigeria international was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020.
Now aged 47, the Lagos-born former goalkeeper continues to redefine her legacy.
