The Super Falcons of Nigeria are set to make their long-awaited return to action this month, marking their first fixtures since the Summer Olympics in Paris, where they exited the tournament at the group stage.
The post Randy Waldrum era starts under the guidance of interim coach Justin Madugu, who the NFF has saddled with tinkering the team.
The Super Falcons will face Algeria in two international friendlies in Lagos as they gear up for the 2025 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has lined up these friendlies to keep the squad sharp ahead of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations scheduled for next year.
Two games for Super Falcons this October
The first match will take place on October 26, with the second following on October 29, 2024. Madugu will be supported by assistants Ann Chiejine and Auwar Bashir Makwalla, bringing experience to the coaching setup.
In a notable change of direction, the NFF has decided to include foreign-based players in the squad, reversing its earlier stance of focusing solely on home-grown talents.
This shift promises to inject both international experience and emerging local stars into the team.
The final squad will be announced on October 19, with training set to begin in Lagos on October 21.
In other women’s football news, Edo Queens, Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Women’s Champions League, have learned their group stage opponents.
Drawn into Group B, they will face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, Egypt’s Tutankhamun, and Ethiopia’s CBE FC. Morocco will host the tournament as Nigeria’s women aim for continental glory.
