Terem Moffi vs Vlahovic: Which signing would be the smarter option for Besiktas?

Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi and Serbian marksman Dusan Vlahovic have emerged as top transfer target for Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas this summer, Afrik-foot reports.

The Istanbul giants are looking to challenge for the title this season, and they have been very busy in the transfer market this summer. They have signed players like Leandro Trossard, Alexander Nubel, Ernest Muci, and Orkun Kokcu.

However, they still need to sign a proper marksman, hence the links to Vlahovic and Moffi. Of the two players, they only need to sign one. Both players have different realities, with Moffi still in the books of OGC Nice, while Vlahovic is a free agent after leaving Juventus at the end of last season.

In this article, we will weigh the two strikers and try to establish which of them would be the smarter signing for the Black Eagles.

Who Has A Greater Reputation?

There is little doubt about which player arrives with the greater reputation.

Vlahović has spent the last four-and-a-half years at the top end of European football, first with Fiorentina and then Juventus. He scored 50 Serie A goals for Juventus and finished his time in Turin with 68 goals in 168 appearances in all competitions.

At his best, the Serbian is a devastating penalty-box striker.

His 2025/26 season was not his strongest, but he still produced 10 goals in 23 appearances across competitions.

More importantly, Vlahović has already shown that he can carry the scoring burden at a major European club. That experience matters for Beşiktaş.

The Black Eagles are not simply looking for a striker who can score against weaker opposition in the Süper Lig. They also need someone capable of leading the line in European competition and delivering when the pressure rises.

Unfortunately, Moffi’s antecedents does not hit as well as Vlahovic. Since his ACL injury two years ago, he has not been the same. He showed a lot of promise when he was younger, but he has failed to reach those heights.

But The Financial Equation Changes Everything

This is where the comparison becomes far more complicated. Vlahović is technically a free transfer, but that does not mean he is cheap.

Reports indicate that his Beşiktaş agreement could be worth €8 million in guaranteed annual wages, with bonuses potentially taking the figure higher. There have also been reports of a sizeable signing bonus.

A three-year contract at €8 million per season would represent €24 million in guaranteed wages before bonuses or any signing-on payment. That is a huge commitment.

Moffi, meanwhile, would need a transfer fee since he remains under contract with Nice until June 2027. However, his current market value is around €8 million and Nice are actively looking to move him on after Porto declined to trigger the €8 million purchase option in his loan agreement.

In other words, Beşiktaş could potentially sign Moffi for a relatively modest fee compared with the overall financial commitment required for Vlahović.

That makes the Nigerian a much more attractive option from a squad-building perspective.

Terem Moffi Has Something To Prove

There is another factor working in Moffi’s favour: motivation.

The Nigerian’s recent career has been disrupted by injuries and a difficult period at Nice. He scored 24 goals in 72 appearances for the French club before joining Porto on loan in January 2026.

Porto ultimately chose not to make his move permanent, while Nice have now made it clear that they expect him to leave this summer.

That means Moffi enters his next move with something to prove.

And there is evidence that the 27-year-old can be a prolific striker when fit and trusted.

Before his recent struggles, Moffi had scored 14 goals for Lorient in the 2020/21 season, eight the following campaign, 18 in 2022/23 and 11 in 2023/24. That is the player Beşiktaş would be betting on recovering.

Which Striker Fits Beşiktaş Better?

There is also a tactical question. Moffi’s explosive running and ability to attack space could give Beşiktaş a different dimension. He is capable of stretching defensive lines rather than simply waiting for crosses inside the penalty area.

Vlahović, by contrast, is at his most dangerous when he can establish himself as the team’s focal point.

That could make him particularly effective if Beşiktaş build their attack around him.

But it also means the club would have to structure a significant part of its attacking system around a player who will command superstar wages. Moffi would give the club more flexibility.
