Tochukwu Nnadi: Two things Brest offer the Super Eagles midfielder over Marseille

Olympique de Marseille may still believe in Tochukwu Nnadi’s long-term potential, but a proposed loan move to Brest could offer the Super Eagles midfielder something he has struggled to find since arriving in France, Afrik-Foot reports.

According to a French outlet, Les Transferts, Brest are interested in signing the 23-year-old on loan as they prepare for the likely departure of Joris Chotard.

Marseille are also believed to be open to the arrangement, seeing it as an opportunity for Nnadi to continue his development.

The Nigerian joined Marseille during the January transfer window for €6 million but has struggled to establish himself, making only eight appearances while registering one assist.

With regular football remaining difficult to secure under Bruno Genesio, Brest may be the ideal club for the midfielder to align his career.

What Brest offer Tochukwu Nnadi over Marseille

1. Regular first-team football

Perhaps the biggest advantage Brest can offer Nnadi is consistent playing time. At Marseille, competition for midfield places remains fierce, and the Nigerian has found himself on the fringes since arriving midway through last season.

Even under new manager Bruno Genesio, opportunities have remained limited, raising fresh doubts over his immediate future.

Brest, however, are looking for midfield reinforcements following the expected exit of Joris Chotard. That creates an opening for Nnadi to compete for a regular starting role rather than waiting for occasional substitute appearances.

For a midfielder still developing his tactical awareness and consistency, playing every week is arguably more valuable than remaining at a bigger club without game time.

A successful season at Brest would also allow him to rebuild confidence after a frustrating first six months at Marseille.

Competition in Nigeria’s midfield continues to grow, with Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, Alhassan Yusuf, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro and several emerging talents all competing for places ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Remaining on Marseille’s bench would make it increasingly difficult for Nnadi to convince Eric Chelle that he deserves regular involvement with the national team.

Brest, on the other hand, can offer the visibility and competitive minutes required to remain relevant internationally.

The Breton club are expected to assure Nnadi of quality game time while continuing his development in Ligue 1.

Strong performances would not only strengthen his Super Eagles credentials but also improve his chances of returning to Marseille next summer as a more improved midfielder.
