Tochukwu Nnadi: Marseille coach provides update on Super Eagles midfielder

Published on by

Olympique Marseille head coach Habib Beye has shared an encouraging update on Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi ahead of Sunday’s clash against OGC Nice, Afrik-Foot reports.

Nnadi has had a tough time since completing a €6 million move from Zulte Waregem during the winter transfer window and has found opportunities hard to come by due to the high level of competition for places at the French club.

Before his arrival in France, he was a regular starter at his former club, making his limited involvement at Marseille quite surprising. Beye has rarely handed him chances which has restricted him to just 34 minutes from four appearances.

The Super Eagles midfielder also missed Marseille’s last league outing, a 2-0 defeat to FC Lorient, after picking up a knee injury in training.

Marseille face Nice on Sunday night as they push to stay in contention for a UEFA Champions League spot.

However, they may be without several key players including the likes of Quinten Timber and Geoffrey Kondogbia, who are both doubts for the fixture. That situation could open the door for Nnadi to earn a first start at the club.

Ahead of the game, Beye confirmed that the Super Eagles midfielder has returned to training following his minor injury and also hinted that the midfielder is in contention for a starting role.

“He is a successful player who brings a different profile with his qualities. He is pushing to start on Sunday”, Beye said in his pre-match press conference.

“We will make a decision after the final two training sessions. He is fit again after a knee knock and is showing very positive signs”, he added.

Marseille are currently sixth in the Ligue 1 standings, but a victory over Nice could lift them back into the top four and boost their Champions League hopes, depending on other results.

With only four matches remaining in the league this season, Nnadi will be eager to seize any opportunity that comes his way and a strong performance could help him secure a more prominent role in the team.
