Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare came off the bench to grab a goal and an assist for Ajax in their 2-0 win over Atalanta in their second UEFA Conference League match on Thursday.
Coach Michel opted to rotate his squad to keep the players fresh, which saw Arokodare drop to the bench while Marcos Leonardo led the attack.
However, that decision did not benefit de Godenzonen, as they failed to score. Then, in the 66th minute, Michel brought Arokodare on to replace Leonardo.

Twenty minutes after his introduction, the towering Nigerian marksman delivered, scoring from a Youri Baas assist. Then, in the third minute of stoppage time, Arokodare turned provider, setting up Abdellah Ouazane.
That victory helped Ajax climb to 13th in the Conference League table, end a terrible record, and marked yet another brilliant outing for Arokodare.
Since joining the club from English side Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan, he has impressed. In fact, he now has eight goals and three assists in 11 appearances — a very strong return at this stage of the campaign.
Two Questions Tolu Arokodare Answered After Ajax vs Atalanta

Following the match between Ajax and Atalanta, Tolu Arokodare spoke to reporters. The atmosphere was calm and upbeat, with everyone visibly delighted by the club’s victory.
Journalists also questioned the Super Eagles striker about his future. As mentioned earlier, Arokodare joined de Godenzonen on a loan deal set to expire at the end of the season. However, the agreement includes an option-to-buy clause worth €20 million. Triggering it depends entirely on the club’s decision and whether the player wants to sign.
When asked if he would like to sign a permanent contract in Amsterdam, Arokodare confirmed he would love to stay.
”Of course I am open to staying at the club. I like it here. I love this place,” Arokodare said.
”The people are great. The fans are great. The team is great. The club is great.”
He also pointed out that a permanent switch to Ajax is not entirely in his hands, given the €20 million purchase option in his contract. To keep him beyond the summer, the club must pay that sum.

In truth, that fee is well within Ajax’s financial reach, provided they believe the forward justifies the investment.
Ultimately, Arokodare simply needs to keep scoring consistently if he hopes to remain in Amsterdam.
