Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Tolu Arokodare put in a strong and confident display as Wolves defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Molineux in Round 29 of the Premier League, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Nigerian striker came off the bench on the hour-mark in place of Adam Armstrong and played a key role in Wolves’ opening goal late in the game.

With the match tightly balanced, Wolves quickly turned defence into attack in the 78th minute. Defender Jackson Tchatchoua sent a long ball forward from deep inside his own half.

Arokodare showed great strength and timing as he battled with Liverpool defenders Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. He jumped highest to win the ball and kept his balance under pressure. After bringing it down, he calmly laid it off to Rodrigo Gomes.

Gomes ran forward, moved past Konate, and cleverly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Alisson Becker to give Wolves the lead.

Liverpool responded quickly. In the 83rd minute, Mohamed Salah fired a powerful shot into the corner to make it 1-1.

But Wolves were not finished.

Tolu Arokodare’s Wolves in late drama and historic record

Deep into stoppage time, Liverpool tried to play out from the back. However, a loose ball eventually fell to Wolves midfielder Andre. From long range, he struck a shot that took a slight deflection and flew into the net in the 94th minute.

The late goal secured a dramatic win for Wolves and sent the home fans into celebration.

Despite the victory, Wolves remain at the bottom of the table and are still fighting to avoid relegation. They are 11 points away from safety with just eight matches left to play.

However, this win made history. It is the first time a team in the relegation zone has scored a 90th-minute winner against the reigning Premier League champions.

For Arokodare, it was another encouraging display in his debut season in England. The Super Eagles striker, who joined Wolves from Belgian side KRC Genk for €26 million on a contract running until 2029, has now scored two goals and provided one assist in 26 league appearances.

While Wolves still face a difficult battle to survive, this famous win over Liverpool will give them fresh belief for the final weeks of the season.
