Transfer news: Werder Bremen chief provides crucial update on Felix Agu’s future

Published on by

Werder Bremen sporting director Peter Niemeyer has revealed the club’s plans for Super Eagles player Felix Agu, Afrik-Foot reports.

Agu has endured a difficult campaign riddled with injuries. In fact, it effectively sums up his entire tenure since arriving in Bremen from VfL Osnabrück in 2020.

So far, he has been limited to just 12 appearances across all competitions. This is due to an ankle injury and various muscular problems.

That also caused him to miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, a competition he would have definitely participated in had he been fit.

Due to his notorious fitness problems, there have been doubts over the 26-year-old’s future, as his contract expires in June of next year.

The Osnabrück product is an exciting left-back who can also play as a right-back or a midfielder. He possesses great flair, and with these qualities, he would certainly be a real asset for any other side in the Bundesliga.

Unfortunately for him, injuries have not allowed him to reach his full potential. But now, Werder Bremen’s sporting director Niemeyer has shared an update on the Super Eagles star.

Werder Bremen To Give Agu New Contract

According to Deichstube, a platform specifically dedicated to news concerning Werder Bremen, the club’s sporting director Peter Niemeyer has confirmed that there are already plans to extend Agu’s contract.

He stated that the club appreciates him and would love to retain his services beyond next season.

”Felix enjoys a high level of appreciation, both within the coaching team and the sporting management. That’s why we can very well imagine extending his contract,” Niemeyer said.

In the meantime, Werder Bremen sit in a precarious position in the German Bundesliga. They are 15th in the table, five points above the relegation playoff spot. With four games left, they are still in real danger of dropping to the 2. Bundesliga.

Die Werderaner will be hoping for a strong end to the campaign to preserve their top-flight status. Then, during the summer break, they will look to secure Agu’s future.
