Transfers: Coventry, Galatasaray & 5 other clubs eyeing Anthony Dennis

Published on by

Super Eagles hopeful Anthony Dennis is one of the most sought-after players in this summer’s transfer market, with clubs like Coventry, Galatasaray, and many other keeping tabs on him, Afrik-Foot reports.

This surge in interest is not a sudden development; Dennis has been attracting attention from across Europe since last year, thanks to his impressive performances at Göztepe, where he has experienced a meteoric rise over the past three seasons.

Interest has intensified this summer, as the midfielder has entered the final year of his contract at Trabzonspor. Having rejected an extension, he is expected to depart the club. In this article, we examine the seven clubs currently in pursuit of Dennis.

Following their promotion to the English Premier League, Coventry City are looking to bolster their squad for top-flight football.

Dennis would be a strong addition, providing the tireless energy needed in the middle of the park for a team likely to spend significant periods defending. He should also adjust to English football quickly, as he would be paired with fellow Nigerian Frank Onyeka in midfield.

2. Galatasaray

The Turkish Süper Lig champions are severely short-staffed in midfield following the exit of Mario Lemina. With seasoned players like İlkay Gündoğan and Lucas Torreira now in their 30s, the club desperately needs a young, dynamic player to provide fresh legs.

As the dominant club in Turkish football, Galatasaray is an attractive destination. They have been pursuing Dennis since last year and are hoping to finalize a deal soon.

3. Beşiktaş

The Black Eagles have been active in the market, aiming to add quality to their setup to challenge Galatasaray for the title.

They are targeting Dennis primarily for his work rate. After a season plagued by defensive lapses, Beşiktaş view Dennis as the ideal shield to protect their backline.

4. Villarreal

The Yellow Submarine have joined the race for Anthony Dennis. With their top midfielder, Pape Gueye, frequently linked with moves to other top clubs, Dennis is being lined up as a potential replacement.

However, Villarreal faces stiff competition. Having never played in Spain, it remains to be seen whether Dennis would be open to the move.

5. RB Leipzig

Bundesliga side RB Leipzig are also interested. Like Galatasaray, they are thin in central midfield, currently relying on Nicolas Seiwald as their only established defensive midfielder.

Dennis’s high work rate and physical intensity should allow him to thrive in the German game. Also, under the new coach Martin Demichelis, Dennis would have a level playing field to prove his worth alongside his new teammates.

6. Eintracht Frankfurt

After a disappointing campaign that saw them finish eighth last season, Eintracht Frankfurt are looking to strengthen their squad.

Their defensive struggles were well-documented, and they hope signing a hardworking player like Dennis will provide the necessary protection for their back four.

To secure the 23-year-old’s signature, however, they will need to present a compelling long-term project.

7. Anderlecht

The former Belgian champions have been linked with Dennis for some time. A deal almost materialized last summer, but they were unable to agree on a fee with Goztepe.

Although they are back in the mix this summer, they face much stiffer competition. As is typical for Belgian clubs, their strategy would likely be to facilitate his development for a few years before selling him on for a significant profit.
