Super Eagles hopeful Christantus Uche once again proved pivotal for Getafe, scoring in their 2-1 away win at Girona in La Liga on Friday

The 21-year-old, who has been deployed in multiple positions this season, started the match as a striker alongside Jiménez Juanmi.

The tactical decision paid off immediately, as Getafe took the lead in just the third minute through Uche’s early strike, putting the visitors 1-0 ahead.

That goal remained the only one in an entertaining first half.

Girona came out stronger after the break and got their reward when Yangel Herrera found the net in the 54th minute, bringing the hosts level.

However, Getafe responded quickly, pushing forward aggressively. Their attacking intent paid off as Borja Mayoral restored their lead just eight minutes later.

The game took a turn in the 73rd minute when Girona’s goalscorer, Herrera, was sent off following a VAR review for a foul, reducing the home side to 10 men.

With a numerical advantage, Getafe managed to see out the game and secure all three points.
