Unity Cup 2026: Femi Azeez double vs Zimbabwe seals final berth for Super Eagles

Millwall winger Femi Azeez was the standout star for Eric Chelle’s side as the Super Eagles clinched a comfortable 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup semi-final, Afrik Foot reports.

Nigeria’s coach gave maiden starts to Arthur Okonkwo, Oputa Chibueze, Kenneth Igboke, and Femi Azeez.

How Femi Azeez helped the Super Eagles of Nigeria defeat Zimbabwe

It took a while for the team to settle into a rhythm, largely because it was the first game many of the players would jointly feature in. A few misplaced passes and mistimed tackles overshadowed the first five minutes.

However, everything changed when Femi Azeez struck on the sixth minute mark.

Some good hold-up play from Terem Moffi helped Nigeria gain momentum in the Zimbabwe box. The Liga Portugal winner laid the ball into Azeez’s path before the Millwall winger’s first-time attempt beat Zimbabwe’s Sibanda.

The Warriors responded with some beautiful, intricate build-up passes, but their decision-making in the final third was poor.

With Arthur Okonkwo rarely getting tested in the Nigerian goal, Zimbabwe’s wastefulness was punished in the second half, three minutes after the hour mark by Femi Azeez.

Philipp Otele went on a mazy run down Nigeria’s left flank before playing Terem Moffi in. The OGC Nice loanee then teed up Femi Azeez for his second goal of the game.

Nigeria will now play against the winners of the semi-final between India and Jamaica tomorrow.
