Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface and his Bayer Leverkusen teammates will face Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

The draw, conducted on Friday, sets up a high-stakes all-German clash in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

Boniface now has a golden opportunity to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in his career.

If Leverkusen overcomes Bayern, they will face the winner of the Feyenoord vs. Inter Milan tie in the quarter-finals.

Leverkusen reached the Round of 16 after finishing the league phase with five wins, one draw, and two losses from eight matches.

The first leg against Bayern will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Allianz Arena, while the return leg will be held at the BayArena a week later.

Leverkusen and Bayern, in recent season, have heard interesting battles and this latest instalment adds to that list.

Just last weekend, the two teams played out a goalless draw in the Bundesliga at the BayArena in a fiery encounter.

Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika will also feature in this stage of the competition as his Club Brugge side, fresh from eliminating Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta, will take on English club Aston Villa.

Boniface’s Champions League journey this season

Boniface battled injury setbacks in the league phase, limiting him to just three appearances.

Despite this, he made an impact, scoring the only goal in Leverkusen’s home win over AC Milan.

He also featured in the away fixture against Feyenoord and the 4-0 defeat at Liverpool before a hamstring injury sidelined him for three matches.

Now fully fit, Boniface, who has another Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella as a teammate, aims to lead Leverkusen’s charge toward the Champions League final, just as he did in last season’s Europa League campaign.
