Victor Osimhen: How Arsenal’s priorities could derail striker’s dream move

Victor Osimhen’s long-awaited Premier League move could finally be within reach, with Arsenal emerging as a serious potential destination, Afrik-Foot reports.

However, for all the excitement surrounding the Nigerian’s openness to moving to North London, a significant question hangs over the deal, and that’s whether Mikel Arteta’s side are desperate to make the transfer happen.

The answer will determine whether the Super Eagles star gets his dream move to England.

Osimhen has been discussed between Arsenal and Galatasaray as part of negotiations involving Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.

The 27-year-old has also refused to completely rule out leaving the Turkish champions, although he remains diplomatic about his future.

“There are always rumours during the transfer windows. I’ll focus on my job. I’m focused on my work. We’ll see and think about what comes next then,” Osimhen said as previously reported by Afrik-Foot.

That leaves the door open, but Arsenal’s priorities could close it again. Arsenal already have Gyökeres.

How Gyökeres could end Arsenal’s Victor Osimhen pursuit

The biggest complication is Viktor Gyökeres. Arsenal already invested heavily in the Swedish international, and he scored 21 goals in all competitions during his first season as the Gunners won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final.

Osimhen would undoubtedly offer a different profile. His pace, physicality, movement behind defensive lines and ability to attack crosses would give Mikel Arteta another dimension.

However, signing him would mean making another huge investment in the same position when Arsenal already possess an established No.9.

Arteta’s priorities tell another story. The Spaniard’s comments after Arsenal’s 3-0 Community Shield victory over Manchester City are particularly revealing.

The Arsenal manager has made it clear that the club will only act if the right opportunity presents itself, while the Gunners continue to assess areas where injuries have left them weaker.

That suggests Arsenal’s immediate priorities may not necessarily align with Osimhen’s desire to move to the Emirates.

The Gunners have already built a squad capable of competing for major honours, and their dominant Community Shield victory reinforced the strength of the team.

For Osimhen, however, the attraction is obvious. Arsenal are guaranteed to go deep into the Champions League while challenging for the Premier League title, and he has already made his ambitions clear.

“It’s going to be a tough season. The team is aware of that. I’m ready to give everything for this club.

“This was an important wake-up call. It was a wake-up call for the players too,” the former Napoli striker said after Galatasaray’s opening-day draw against Corum FK.

The biggest obstacle is Galatasaray. Even if Arsenal decide Osimhen is worth pursuing, Galatasaray hold considerable power.

The Nigerian signed a contract running until 2029 after his permanent move to Istanbul, meaning the Turkish champions are under no pressure to sell, having already turned down a €130m verbal offer from Al-Hilal.

Arsenal now have a choice to make. Either the Premier League Champions pay a huge fee and potentially reshape their wage structure for an elite striker, or trust Gyökeres and address other areas of the squad.
