Atlético Madrid have once again placed Victor Osimhen on their shortlist as they search for a striker capable of improving their attacking strength ahead of next season, Afrik-Foot reports.
The Nigerian forward is seen as an ideal fit for the club’s style. Known for his speed, strength and relentless pressing, Osimhen represents the type of dominant number nine the Spanish side believes could raise their competitive level.
Inside the club, there is confidence that his physical presence and aggressive approach would suit the tactical demands of manager Diego Simeone. Atlético have long admired forwards who work hard without the ball while remaining decisive inside the penalty area, qualities Osimhen has consistently displayed in recent seasons.
The interest is also strengthened by the player’s openness to listening to offers that would allow him compete regularly in one of Europe’s biggest leagues.
However, despite the sporting appeal, completing the transfer remains extremely complicated.

Victor Osimhen salary demands, biggest challenge
The main obstacle facing Atlético is financial rather than football-related. Osimhen currently earns around €14 million per season, a salary far beyond the club’s wage structure.
Atlético’s hierarchy are unwilling to disrupt their carefully balanced salary system, according to Fichajes. Even if a transfer fee could be negotiated on acceptable terms, the striker’s contract conditions remain the biggest stumbling block.

For any deal to move forward, Osimhen would need to significantly reduce his salary expectations. Without such a compromise, Atlético are prepared to look elsewhere, prioritising financial stability over any individual signing.
The coming summer transfer window is therefore expected to be decisive. A pay adjustment could revive negotiations; otherwise, the Spanish side will pursue more economically sustainable options to strengthen their attack.
Osimhen, one of the best – Zubar
Meanwhile, praise for Osimhen continues to grow across European football.
Former French defender Ronald Zubar has described the striker as one of the world’s best forwards after watching him closely at the recent Africa Cup of Nations.

“I watched the Africa Cup of Nations, and I like Osimhen, the Nigerian striker,” Zubar said.
“I like his fighting spirit, the winning mentality he has in him and how he tries to bring every member of his team with him.”
Zubar also praised the forward’s resilience following his move to Galatasaray.
“Even when he went to Turkey, people said his career was over, but he is still showing that he is among the best strikers in the world.”
Osimhen’s performances back up that claim. The Super Eagles striker has scored 15 goals and provided five assists in 23 appearances this season.
