Victor Osimhen: Galatasaray say Super Eagles striker might undergo surgery

Published on by

Turkish champions Galatasaray have confirmed that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen sustained a fractured forearm during their Champions League clash against Liverpool on Wednesday, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Cimbom were banking on Osimhen to lead the line as they traveled to Anfield for the second leg of their high-stakes encounter.

Having secured a 1-0 lead in the first leg, Galatasaray simply needed to avoid a heavy defeat to progress.

However, their ambitions suffered a massive blow when Osimhen sustained an injury early in the match. Although he was patched up by the medical team and returned to the pitch, the Nigerian forward was clearly compromised.

His movement was restrained, and he was unable to exert his usual physical dominance. Consequently, the 27-year-old was substituted at halftime.

Without their talisman, the reigning Turkish champions were humbled 4-0 on Merseyside, bringing their Champions League campaign to an abrupt end.

Galatasaray Provide Medical Update on Victor Osimhen

Following the defeat, the primary concern for Galatasaray supporters was the extent of Osimhen’s injury. The club has now provided clarity, confirming via social media that the striker suffered a fracture in his right forearm and may require surgery.

”During the Champions League Round of 16 second-leg match against Liverpool, Victor Osimhen sustained a heavy blow to his arm,” the club stated. “While he completed the first half, he was withdrawn at the interval due to the risk of a fracture.

”Post-match evaluations under the supervision of our medical team confirmed a fracture in his right forearm, and a cast has been applied. A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days following further assessment.”

The club also provided an update on Noa Lang, who suffered a serious laceration to his right thumb during the second half and is scheduled for surgery in Liverpool.

By the looks of it, Osimhen could be sidelined for at least a month, a significant blow for a side still competing for the Süper Lig title and the Turkish Cup.

Depending on the success of his surgery and rehabilitation, there is also a slight risk he could miss most of the remaining campaign. Both the player and the club will be hoping for a swift recovery to bolster their domestic trophy hunt.
